Beauty Students Pamper Local Carers
23rd January 2012
Kind hearted carers got the chance to enjoy a couple of hours of luxury and pampering when Accrington & Rossendale College welcomed members of Hyndburn Carers' Link to give them a day to remember by performing a wide range of treatments for free.
Salon Manager, Kathy Shaw said, “Every year we welcome carers into the Hair & Beauty Department and make a big fuss of them with a series of treatments designed to make them feel special and help them relax. Day after day, year after year these carers put other people’s health and well being above their own, so it’s a privilege to be involved in such a worthwhile project and put them first for a while.”
Statistics show that more than three-quarters (76%) of people looking after an ill, frail or disabled loved one do not have a life outside of their caring role, according to research issued during last year’s Carers Week.
The results show that huge numbers of carers are left isolated and lonely, missing out on opportunities that the rest of the population takes for granted. 80% have been forced to give up leisure activities or from going out socially since becoming a carer.
Level 2 Beauty Therapy students will perform a variety of treatments including manicures, pedicures and facials.
